Poliça premiere video for ‘I Need $’ / ‘So Leave’

Following on from their recent top 40 album Shulamith (the follow up to 2012’s Give You the Ghost), Poliça are set to release new single I Need $ on 3rd March 2014.

I Need $ (spoken as I Need Money) is Shulamith‘s most R&B / pop inflected track, and appears a fortnight before Poliça’s string of headline shows, starting next month.

Watch: Justin Bieber arrested for drunk & drug-driving charges

Justin Bieber has been arrested for driving-under-the-influence of alcohol (DOI), and according to sources close to the scene, the end result wasn’t pretty.

Bieber, who apparently stumbled when approached by officers, resisted arrested during the incident at Miami Beach. According to celebrity news site TMZ, Bieber was also “busted for resisting arrest without violence, drag racing and driving on an expired license”.

Sampha performs ‘Too Much’ at Future Festival

Whilst it may not have performed strongly upon its commercial release with Drake last year, the more underground success of Too Much hasn’t stopped Sampha becoming a household name amongst the hardcore (and influential) British music audience.

Taking to BBC Radio 1’s Future Festival last night, the British producer/singer-songwriter proved his worth, stunning the crowd with a charismatic and powerful performance of the infamous track, minus Drake whom originally featured on the initial’s release.

Jhené Aiko shines during performance of ‘The Worst’ at Radio 1 Future Festival

Jhené Aiko took to Radio 1’s Future Festival last night, performing a stunning rendition of new single The Worst, alongside other tracks from her brilliant Sail Out EP.

The rising star, whose [duly-deserved] prominence has been, in part, helped by friend Drake, is gearing up for the May release of her debut studio album Souled Out on Def Jam.

It’s refreshing to hear that there is still a huge market out there for good, quality soul, and that artists are sticking to their passions in just making some great music.

Lorde brings on Wale & Rick Ross for ‘Royals’ remix

US rapper Wale has unveiled his remix of Lorde’s global phenomenon Royals in preparation for his forthcoming LP The Album About Nothing.

The track, which comes complete with a new take on the existing beat (particularly post the b-section), also features an unreleased verse from Rick Ross, alongside a dancehall-inspired Magazeen.

MNEK unveils stripped-back cover of Gorgon City’s ‘Ready For Your Love’

Rising producer/vocalist MNEK (that’s M-N-E-K, not ‘EmmNeck’ as an FYI), best known for lending his vocals to Duke Dumont’s Need U 100% alongside recent smash Ready For Your Love by Gorgon City, has premiered a stripped-back visual and audio of the latter…. and it sounds…. incredible!

We’re incredibly excited by this ‘nu-wave’ of young talent that’s rising out from the UK currently (MNEK, Ella Eyre, Sam Smith, Becky Hill etc), but what’s as exciting is that they’re all pally with each other too – who knows the collaborations that could take place!

Duke Dumont remixes Tensnake, Nile Rodgers and Fiora’s ‘Love Sublime’

Duke Dumont has proved his Grammy Award nomination again (not that we ever doubted him), with his fresh remix of Tensnake’s brilliant Love Sublime, featuring Chic hitmaker Nile Rodgers and new vocalist Fiora.

Mikky Ekko premiers solo version of Rihanna’s ‘Stay’

Mikky Ekko has lifted the lid on his solo version of Stay, the song he wrote, and recorded, and then subsequently gave to Rihanna for her seventh studio album Unapologetic.

The track, which was performed by the pair at last year’s Grammy Awards, also featured Ekko providing backing vocals on Rihanna’s version, and earned Rihanna a bask of accolades from the fans and critics alike.

Take a listen to Ekko’s original version below; as you’ll hear, Rihanna kept incredibly close to Ekko’s initial cut – proof that a masterpiece should never be touched.
