Listen: Tei Shi returns with ‘Die 4 Ur Love’

Tei Shi has returned with ‘Die 4 Ur Love’, her first taste of new music this year.

Speaking of the track, her first song since last year’s ‘La Linda’ project, Tei Shi says “”Die 4 Ur Love” is a song about the end of the world as you know it. About losing someone or something you never knew you could lose, and then all of a sudden, your reality shifts. All the things you would have done, or said, the love you could have given, and being willing to die over it. I wrote it right after the new year when I was feeling a sense of impending doom and darkness, which now feels surreal to see taking form in a real way around the world and in how the rest of 2020 has unfolded.”

Raleigh Ritchie shares new song ‘Aristocrats’; announces second album ‘Andy’

0

Raleigh Ritchie has announced his long-awaited second album.

Titled ‘Andy’, the project, which arrives on 26th June, follows on from his 2016 debut record ‘You’re A Man Now, Boy’, which featured singles ‘Bloodsport’, ‘The Greatest’ and more.

Of the album, Ritchie (real name Jacob Anderson) said “Andy is a little wink to myself. It’s saying, this is you speaking right now, this is you saying what you have to say.”

Comprising twelve songs, including last year’s ‘Time In A Tree’, ‘Andy’ will also feature new song ‘Aristocrats’ which you can hear below. Discussing the track’s video, which he self-directed, Anderson said “British history is complicated, especially as a POC. And history is everything, it’s what we learn from to help us build our future. In school I didn’t learn much about British history aside from the country’s victories and a version of some of it’s atrocities. Sometimes it’s a confusing place, and although I love my country, I don’t always feel loved by it. With this video I wanted to explore this and my relationship to my own history and the history of those who came before me.”

Last month, Jamie xx ended months of speculation about exactly who’s behind one of the year’s most sought after club tracks with the release of ‘Idontknow‘, his first taste of solo material since his 2015 breakthrough album ‘In Colour’.

Today sees Jamie premiere the song’s accompanying video, which stars acclaimed Belfast dancer and choreographer Oona Doherty, who co-directed the film alongside Luca Truffarelli. The pair filmed the video in Belfast in March 2020, the night before Northern Ireland went into lockdown. Jamie and Oona had originally connected during the making of ‘Idontknow’, with Oona and her friends responding to the track with a series of clips of them dancing to the track (which in turn inspired a host of dance-based responses from fans)

Wireless Festival confirm 2020 postponement

0

Wireless Festival has become the latest live music casualty from the Covid-19 outbreak, with organisers confirming this year’s event will be postponed to 2021.

Initially scheduled to return to London’s Finsbury Park across the 3-5 July weekend, organisers released a statement saying “Our heart goes out to the artists and fans who were looking forward to Wireless Festival”, with hopes that the festival will return on 2nd-4th July 2021.

However organisers have also teased that Wireless fans may still have some taste of the festival over the summer, with a ‘virtual edition’ planned. 2019’s Wireless saw a 360 virtual reality broadcast from Melody VR, so here’s hoping something similar (albeit with artists conforming to social distancing measures) will also take place.

Daft Punk have confirmed their intention to score their second movie, following their contribution to the soundtrack of 2010’s ‘Tron: Legacy’.

Marking the first taste of new music since their hugely-successful 2013 record ‘Random Access Memories’, the French dance duo will add their style to the soundtrack for Dario Argento’s upcoming movie, ‘Occhiali Neri’.

According to Argento (following an interview with Italy’s La Repubblica), the duo are expected to send him their first efforts soon, with a meet-up between the Robots and Argento planned in Rome for when the global lockdowns subside.

Filming of ‘Occiali Neri’ has been postponed until the autumn due to the Covid-19 outbreak, so it’s likely to be a while until we hear any fruits from Daft Punk’s project.

Following her return to the scene with February’s ‘Bittersweet‘, Lianne La Havas has shared her second new song of the year, alongside announcing her anticipated third studio record.

The new song, ‘Paper Thin’, will join its predecessor on Lianne’s upcoming self-titled album, which follows on from 2015’s ‘Blood’.

Describing the project, the Londoner says “Lianne La Havas is ten songs that span the arc of a love relationship. The album’s opener, ‘Bittersweet’ functions as a kind of an overture, setting out what follows, before the giddy, love-struck rush of ‘Read My Mind’. If these first few songs suggest a flower opening its petals, that’s no coincidence: “What plays a big role in the album is the idea of the life cycle of plants and nature—equating this journey with a seasonal thing that blooms, thrives, goes away, and comes back even stronger.”

Listen to ‘Paper Thin’ below; ‘Lianne La Havas’ is set for release on 17th July:
