Audio: Armand Van Helden – ‘Eluv8’

It’s been nine years since house legend Armand Van Helden delivered a full-length album (2007’s Ghettoblaster), but he’s now firmly back with his all-new project Extra Dimensional.

Set to land toward the end of November, the album was announced alongside Know Thyself earlier in the week, with Armand promising to release a new track from the record every week until its release. Today, he shares Extra Dimensional‘s opening cut, Eluv8 as Radio 1’s latest ‘Hottest Record’, and it’s some classic house in its purest soulful form.

Preview: TLC – ‘Joyride / Haters’

Back in 2014, TLC launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund a brand new album, the first full-length project recorded since 2002’s tragic passing of Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopez (3D was partially-recorded alongside Left Eye prior to her death).

Whilst surpassing the $150,000 goal (T-Boz and Chilli managed to raise over $400,000 during the campaign), news on the album remained thin on the ground…. until last night when snippets of two new songs surfaced online.

Bizarrely, these were only available for Apple Music subscribers in Japan, and there’s still no word as to when the full songs will be released to the rest of the world, but for the time-being, enjoy snippets of Joyride and Haters, below, and don’t forget to let us know your thoughts. Do they have the impact you would have expected after a 14-year wait?

Back in 2003, 2Play was the name on everyone’s lips after nabbing a MOBO Award for his debut solo single So Confused; since then, the producer’s been fairly low-key when it comes to new music and whilst having spent some years in the wilderness writing joints for other big-name artists, 2016 seems the year he’s striking back with his own blend of future-house beats.

Having shared She’s Got That Vibe back at the start of September, 2Play’s now dropped a fresh edit of the R.Kelly-sampling joint, courtesy of Liverpool’s Kokiri – bump this one below:

BBC Music Awards confirmed for 2016 return

Following the success of its previous two endeavours, the BBC have confirmed the return of their Music Awards for the third year running.

Set to hit London’s ExCel Centre on 12th December, the show, hosted by Fearne Cotton and Claudia Winkleman, will see a summary of the past 12 months of music, alongside performances from the likes of Emeli Sande, The 1975, Kaiser Chiefs, Zara Larsson and more. Further acts are also set to be announced over the coming weeks too.

This year’s ceremony will also see the introduction of two new awards – the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year gong (voted for by the Radio 1 Playlist Committee), and the BBC Radio 2 Album of the Year award, also voted for by the station’s playlist committee.

Tickets are now on sale, and are priced from £42 to £62 (plus booking fee). Visit bbc.co.uk/music for full details.

Professor Green has shared One Eye On The Door, the second single to be lifted off his upcoming fourth studio album Back On The Market. Co-written alongside former Girls Aloud-member Nicola Roberts, the song follows on from the album’s title-track which marked Pro’s return earlier in the summer.

Glastonbury 2017: Worthy View and Tipi Village sold out

Glastonbury Festival’s Tipi Village and Worthy View camping areas have sold out for 2017, following a rush sale at midday today.

Now in it’s fifth year, Worthy View (based at the southern end of the farm, adjacent to Strummerville), offers pre-erected, custom-made camping for those who want to take the pressure off lugging hoards of belongings with them. Meanwhile a dedicated car-park is also nearby (eliminating the ‘hill of death’ for those who are used to general admission via Gate C).

Unlike the initial ticket-sale, pre-erected camping required a full payment, however for those unlucky this time around, a resale of unwanted Tipi/WV accomodation is likely to become available next Spring.

Glastonbury Festival returns on 21-25th June 2017.
