Glastonbury 2017: Ed Sheeran finally confirmed as Sunday night headliner

Following recent rumours, Ed Sheeran has finally been confirmed as the Sunday night headliner for 2017’s Glastonbury Festival, completing the trio consisting of Radiohead and Foo Fighters

Announced moments ago, Ed’s appointment will mark three years since his last Pyramid Stage performance, though his first as the main-stage headliner. Sheeran is currently riding the wave following the record-breaking release of his third studio album Divide, the follow-up to 2014’s phenomenally-successful X.

Katy Perry announced as Radio 1 Big Weekend headliner

Katy Perry has been revealed as the Saturday night headliner for this summer’s BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, joining the likes of previously-announced Kings of Leon, Little Mix and Stormzy.

Set to take place in Hull’s Burton Constable Hall across the 27-28th May, Big Weekend 2017 will see over 50,000 music fans enjoy performances from some of the biggest and newest UK and international acts, with the majority of the free tickets going to the residents of Hull and the surrounding areas.

Back in January, Breakfast Show host Nick Grimshaw said: “I’m super excited for Big Weekend as it kicks off festival season and always has a mega line-up of the best live music. Roll on May – I can’t wait to party in Hull alongside Kings of Leon, Little Mix, Stormzy and loads more!”

Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be broadcast live on Radio 1 and simulcast with a video stream on the Radio 1 website.

Currently heading toward the finish line of their Brixton Academy Night + Day residency, The xx’s sold out shows have seen the trio invite a wealth of pre-announced and surprise guests onstage over the past week, and tonight’s show may have been one of the biggest yet.

Having last jumped onstage as a surprise performer back at Glastonbury back in 2010, Florence Welch made an exciting return this evening to perform The xx’s stunning remix of her 2008 breakthrough You’ve Got The Love, alongside Jamie, Remy and Oliver.

Rob Da Bank and Mylo to honour Prince with a giant Purple Rave

Self-confessed Prince super-fan Rob Da Bank will honour the one year anniversary of Prince’s death with a special Purple Rave celebration at London’s Clapham Grand.

Set to hit the venue on 21st April (one year to the day since Prince’s untimely passing), the Bestival founder will be joined by fellow Purple One-fan, Mylo, who will team up to deliver a night full of bootlegs, anthems and fun. Flamboyant dance troupe The Suzie Sisters will also be on-hand during the evening, alongside tribute group Prince-less who previously went down a storm back at October’s Purple Rave.

The night will also launch with a full screening o Prince’s Purple Rain movie, broadcast against Clapham Grand’s 25ft screen; whilst there will also be further clips of Prince’s performances throughout the night too.

Stormzy’s had one hell of a month. No less than performing at the BRIT Awards alongside Ed Sheeran, the don’s debut album Gangs Signs and Prayer has also earned gold status after being on sale for just over a fortnight.

To celebrate the achievement, the Londoner’s dropped the video for Cold, one of the standouts from GSAP and confirmed as the project’s official second single.

Ed Sheeran announces new June 2017 O2 Arena show

Ed Sheeran has become the latest act to help celebrate The O2 Arena’s 10th birthday this year, joining the likes of Jamiroquai, Alt-J and Celine Dion for a one-off show on 22nd June.

The just-announced date will see Sheeran return to the iconic venue following next month’s stint for his Divide UK Tour in support of his recently-released third studio album.

The xx welcomed Robyn onstage during their set at London’s Brixton Academy last night to deliver a surprise rendition of one of her biggest singles, 2005’s With Every Heartbeat.

The show, one of The xx’s many nights as part of their Brixton residency, falls part of the trio’s ‘Day + Night’ set of gigs which has seen them invite the likes of Floating Points, Cat Power and Sampha to the stage. The xx will now continue on their own as part of their current I See You tour as the week develops.
