Glastonbury Festival 2020 officially cancelled

0

Glastonbury Festival’s 50th anniversary celebrations have been officially postponed following the global coronavirus outbreak.

Last week, organisers revealed the first batch of names for 2020’s festival, with Emily Eavis citing worry about the uncertain situation – “As things stand we are still working hard to deliver our 50th anniversary Festival in June”.

The announcement of this year’s cancellation means that anniversary celebrations will now take place in 2021. A delay until later this year was likely unworkable due to the logistics of Glastonbury’s home also being a fully-working farm.

The current global situation has meant a potential lack of medical staff and police support onsite, both large reasons for Glastonbury to change course.

2020 tickets will be valid for 2021. It’s not yet confirmed whether headliners Kendrick Lamar, Sir Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift will be returning in the same slots for the new date.

Låpsley has shared her new single ‘Speaking of the End’, the latest track from her upcoming second album, ‘Through Water’.

Set for release this Friday, 20th March, ‘Through Water’ has been cited as the singer’s most accomplished work to date, written and recorded during her transition into young womanhood. With Låpsley as the major producer and songwriter, the ten songs (whittled down from over one hundred) are said to reflect her newfound confidence, clarity and self-awareness as an artist, documenting a wealth of personal experiences and coming-of-age stories set against a thematic backdrop of water, climate, weather and the elements.

After being tipped as the bookie’s favourite for a good few months, Kendrick Lamar has been revealed as the final headliner for 2020’s Glastonbury Festival.

Taking the lead on the Pyramid Stage on Friday 26th June, Lamar will join previously-announced Sir Paul McCartney and Taylor Swift as main-stage headliners; festival-curator Emily Eavis has previously spoken on the various non-Pyramid stages across Glastonbury, citing that this summer’s 50th anniversary will also see “Pyramid-worthy artists headline the Other Stage”. Lamar’s reveal came part of the first-wave line-up announcement, which also featured artists including the likes of Skunk Anansie, HAIM, Dua Lipa and Kano.

2020 will mark Kendrick’s first appearance at Glastonbury, and will likely coincide with the anticipated release of his new album, the follow-up to 2017’s ‘DAMN.’. Recent leaks have suggested Lamar’s new project will be more ‘rock-influenced’, and that the record is ‘almost finished’.

Glastonbury Festival’s 50th anniversary runs from 24-28th June 2020.

Disclosure have continued their onslaught of all-new music, sharing their third successive track in as many days.

Titled ‘Expressing What Matters’, the upbeat song follows Monday’s ‘Ecstasy‘; yesterday the Lawrence brothers also dropped ‘Tondo’ which samples Cameroonian artist Eko Roosevelt.

Disclosure’s last studio album, ‘Caracal‘, was released back in 2015 – in December 2018 the duo dropped their ‘Moonlight‘ EP which saw a similar release structure – 5 new songs premiered over the course of 5 successive days. That mini-project featured a distinct throwback to their acclaimed debut record, ‘Settle’.

Listen: Lianne La Havas shares new single ‘Bittersweet’

It’s been almost five years since Lianne La Havas last graced us with an album – 2015’s excellent ‘Blood’ – and whilst she’s appeared as a featured artist on a drip-feed of collaborations since (including ‘When Your Light Goes Out’ from Mr Jukes’ often-overlooked ‘God First’ LP), it’s safe to say we’ve been pining for solo material for a fair while.

Fear not though, Lianne is back with her new single ‘Bittersweet’.

Premiered as Annie Mac’s latest Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1, ‘Bittersweet’ marks the first preview of the Londoner’s forthcoming studio album, set to drop later this summer.

Disclosure are back, previewing their upcoming third studio album with their new single ‘Ecstasy’.

Announcing the new single via their socials, Disclosure’s Howard Lawrence says “This came into existence early 2019 in a writing session at Guy’s. We were chopping up 70s disco & soul samples when Fantasy by Aquarium Dream gave us exactly what we were searching for. This is made entirely to get a human being on the dance floor”.

The duo have also confirmed that even more new music will be arriving imminently, with an email telling fans “And there’s more… check back here, same time tomorrow”. **UPDATE: Disclosure’s next song is titled Tondo**

Revealing the news as part of his upcoming Twice As Tall 2020 tour, which will hit multiple stops across the US and Europe, the listing confirms Burna will hit Worthy Farm on Sunday 28th June – stage is TBC but we’d pin high presumptions as a closer (or sub-headliner) on Silver Hayes’ Sonic Stage.
