[NEWS] Label ‘Tru Thoughts’ sign TY

0

London rapper Ty, known for his Mercury-nominated LP ‘Upwards’ as well as collaborations aplenty with the likes of blog-favourite Eska, has just been announced as indie label Tru Thoughts’ new signing.

Ty (real name Ben Chijoke) has been absent from the airwaves for a while now; his last release ‘Special Kind of Fool’ was released way back in 2010! As an artist who I’ve been following for many years now (and had the pleasure of seeing live at Jazz Cafe many times), it’s great to hear he’s coming back. His new EP ‘A Kick Snare and An Idea’ is due out in April. Check out one of the tracks ‘Like You Never’ below:

[NEW MUSIC] Sam Smith – Lay Me Down (Acoustic)

For those who have heard Disclosure’s phenomenal Sam Sparro-esque track Latch, then Sam Smith should be no stranger. Here he wows with a spine-tingling acoustic performance of Lay Me Down, a track we hope will feature as part of his debut album.

With some of the biggest names in the UK industry giving the young artist their seal of approval, mark our words, 2013 is certain to be the year where you’ll all be talking about Sam Smith. We wouldn’t be surprised if we saw him hitting up one of the major stages at Glastonbury next year either, and potentially becoming one of our biggest international exports in years. Definitely one to watch! Check out the heartfelt performance below.

Breezy and Ri-Ri record new song together

Not sure if this is actually newsworthy, however with all the ‘on/off’ saga that’s been going on with Rihanna & Chris Brown, the pair were recently spotted leaving an LA studio a few days ago.

One of Breezy’s [many] representatives has confirmed the duet is in the works, and if everything pans out right, is likely to appear on Brown’s sixth studio album (working title = Carpe Diem), due for release later this year.

After hooking up again with CB for ‘Nobody’s Business’ on her latest album ‘Unapologetic’, Rihanna also spoke with Complex Magazine (latest covers pictured below) earlier in the week regarding the duet and why she did it:

“Pardon me? It’s the truth. Remember? It’s a fun record that The-Dream wrote and we loved the lyrics. You’re still asking me questions about it so clearly you don’t know.”

Joey Bada$$ seems to be the saving grace of hip hop at the moment. Here he links up with über producer DJ Premier who throws in his trademark ‘turntablisms’ to make a smooth beat that not only brings hip hop back to its simplicity of yesteryear, but also let’s Bada$$’s lyrical genius shine through… and prove that he really is badass.
