[LIVE] Ellie Goulding performs ‘Anything Could Happen’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live

0

Multi award-winner and critically-acclaimed British singer/songwriter has performed her US No1 smash ‘Anything Could Happen’ on TV’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! show.

The singer took to the stage as part of her US tour to promote current smash album ‘Halcyon’, of which ‘Anything Could Happen’ lead the single releases. Whilst it didn’t chart too well here in Blighty, the US fans in the audience can be seen eagerly clapping away with plenty of head-nodding thrown in too.

We’re big fans here of Ms Goulding [both her debut album ‘Lights’ and new release are on constant rotation], and her reluctance to conform as a pop-celebrity to focus on creating just great music is something many young artists out there should take note of.

Justin Timberlake & Jay-Z to embark on a 10-date tour

0

Music powerhouses Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake are rumoured to be incredibly close to announcing a joint US-tour. The rapper will join the singer (whose new single ‘Suit & Tie’ also features the Brooklyn king of hip-hop) on a 10-night stint across major cities in the US, and likely to be this year.

According to the New York Times:

“After teaming up at the Super Bowl and at the Grammys, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z will launch a 10-city stadium tour together, we hear. Timberlake was joined by Jay-Z at the music awards show Sunday to perform his new track “Suit & Tie” — and we’re told they’ll be dusting off those dapper Tom Ford tuxes for a full-blown tour. JT and wife Jessica Biel even sat at the show with Jay-Z and Beyoncé. The “Hot Back” singer hinted there will be “big news coming” after the Grammys via Twitter, and he admitted on the red carpet, according to a report, “We’re definitely going to go on tour . . . I don’t know how much I should say . . . It’s going to be a lot of fun, I know that.” JT didn’t reveal who “we” was, but our sources say it’s the “Watch the Throne” rapper.”

This is exciting news indeed. What with the Wireless Festival also announcing a ‘massive surprise’ this week, fingers crossed it’ll be these two also embarking on a trip to good old Blighty.

More news as and when we get it. And to leave you a taster, here are Messrs Timberlake & Zed doing their thing on Sunday night’s Grammy Awards:

[NEWS] HMV closes Republic Of Ireland stores. 300 jobs to go

0

Beleaguered music retailer HMV has announced today the imminent closure of 16 stores in The Republic of Ireland. The closures will affect 300 jobs, the chain has said.

Unlike the chain’s UK stores, the ROI element of the company had failed to find any interested parties to buy  the stores, thus leading to the closures.

In a statement, the firm said: “Since his appointment, the receiver has conducted an assessment of the viability of the company and has actively sought a sale. The marketplace is very difficult given competition from web-based retailers and digital downloads, compounded by a number of other factors including high levels of rent. All stores were loss making and it was not possible to attract a purchaser.”

The news follows on from last week’s announcement of 60 additional job cuts, along with CEO Trevor Moore.

[NEWS] Prince charges fans to watch new video

0

In a unique twist of gaining some PR, legendary artist Prince has frustrated fans (and musos alike) by charging them to watch his new video.

Though it’s fairly common for artists to package up their videos to sell as ‘add-ons’ on CD/downloads, charging for exclusive viewing is something that the industry clearly isn’t ready for yet.

The video, for the artist’s new single ‘Screwdriver’ was released yesterday exclusively on Prince’s official site; whilst many of today’s artists (if not majority) utilise online video sites like YouTube, or atist-connected ad-ons such as VEVO, Prince will only allow those who purchase online to view/download the official video.

Many fans have been sharing their disgust on this, especially via the Twittersphere. Personally, I think it’s not the right way to go about it, however, when delving closer into a fan’s affinity with an artist, I would’ve paid more than that to have an exclusive version of a new Michael Jackson video. For general ‘Joe Public’ though, this is alienating many of the prospective audience.

Music videos now are often shared virally, the lack of ability to do so could be limiting the potential of the track to reach the coveted No 1 (as well as restricting the possibility of growing a new fan-base).

[VIDEO] Jakwob releases video to new single ‘Fade’

0

Acclaimed dubstep producer Jakwob has released the accompanying video to new single ‘Fade’.

The single, revealed by yours-truly on 24th January, is an absurdly stunning anthem, and the video follows suit with an enchanting, yet mysterious vibe.

Simple yet effective, the video harks back to the brilliant visual that accompanied Layo & Bushwacka’s ‘Love Story (Finally)’ video in the mid ’00’s.

Simply put, this song, and now the video, are just the fresh-sound that the UK charts need. The piano expressions combined with the haunting vocals by new artist Maiday, coupled with the uptempo drum beats, work together to create an anthem that fans will rarely tire.

Add the video in and you have a 5 out of 5.
