[NEWS] One Direction respond to Jake Bugg’s mocking

0

One Direction members Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have taken to Twitter to respond to singer Jake Bugg’s mocking during a recent interview.

Bugg’s responded with negativity when asked about One Direction during his interview with Shortlist Magazine earlier this week:

“Oh, I’m pretty sure they have a good laugh, but it’s easy to, isn’t it? When you don’t have to write any songs. People [call them the new Beatles] because they broke America, but that don’t mean a thing. I mean, [One Direction] must know that they’re terrible. They must know… Calling them the new rock stars is a ridiculous statement. And people should stop making it.”

[Niall] Horan opened the reaction by tweeting to his 9m+ followers ‘[It] really buggs me that artists we’re fans of flip on us in the press!’

Tomlinson then continued by saying ‘Hi @JakeBugg do you think slagging off boy bands makes you more indie?’

One Direction recently walked away with the first ever Global Success Award at this week’s BRIT Awards ceremony, though lost out to Best British Group with the gong going to Grammy-winners Mumford and Sons.

[NEW MUSIC] Skream’s MASSIVE remix of Duke Dumont’s ‘Need You 100%’

0

Wow. Just, just wow. Talented remixer Skream has thrown down a superb 80s feel on Duke Dumont’s incredible ‘Need U 100%’. For those who haven’t heard of the original version of the track, I urgently suggest you listen to it (below). It’s a beautiful gem of funky vocal house, something that I believe has been missing over the past few years.

Skream’s remix takes this track throws everything on its side; essentially, this remix is huge. Listening to it makes you feel like you’re timewarped back to the soundtrack of some 80s cheesy movie. It’s powerful though, and exactly what ‘share’ buttons were made for.

Check both the remix and the original out below. NOW!

[NEWS] US Billboard charts adds YouTube views to stats

0

The US singles chart had an overhaul to now include YouTube views within its counting. Billboard have joined with Neilsen (a comprehensive researcher of online statistics) to update their chart methodology to include music video views. This already adds to the list of physical sales, digital downloads, radio airplay and web-streaming services.

This overhaul will have a major impact on Billboard’s infamous Hot 100. The inclusion of video views means that tracks such as the current YouTube sensation ‘The Harlem Shake’ by Baauer, stormed into the Number One position.

Speaking of the subject, Billboard’s editorial director Bill Werde’ said:

“The very definition of what it means to have a hit is ever-changing these days. The Billboard charts are the ultimate measure of success in music, and they constantly evolve to reflect these new music experiences. When the charts launched over 70 years ago, a hit was defined as selling copies of a single or generating airplay. While those avenues are still viable, one needn’t look any further than CeeLo, Gotye, Psy or now Baauer to know that a song can be a massive hit on YouTube alone.”

The star will join some of the biggest names in the reborn ‘Dance Village’, including Disclosure, Hot Natured, David Rodigan, Sub Focus, Aluna George, Eats Everything, Rudimental and The Congos. Now known as Silver Hayes, the new area will include one giant supertent, Sonic, for dance-oriented headliners, the Wow Stage for underground breakers and best of all the Gully – a brand new installation combining an open air stage and a pulsating street of sound systems and stalls featuring the best new DJs, MCs and live music.

Festival Organiser Emily Eavis has said “I’ve always thought that the closest parallel with Glastonbury is Notting Hill Carnival, and the buzz around this rebirth is exactly what we were looking for, both musically and visually. There’s going to be a lot of incredible music from all around the world.”

We’ll be updating with more Glastonbury 2013 confirmed artists as and when announced. Rest assured though, after an absence last summer, Glasto is set to return to glory.

[NEWS] Michael Jackson’s estate confirm second Cirque du Soleil show ‘One’

0

The Estate of Michael Jackson and Cirque du Soleil today unveiled that ‘Michael Jackson ONE’ will open and take residency exclusively at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino this summer. Directed by Jamie King, Michael Jackson ONE will start its preview performances on May 23, 2013 and have its official premiere on June 29, 2013. This entirely new show is the second creative project to be developed between Cirque du Soleil and The Estate of Michael Jackson after the top grossing Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour, currently playing arenas in Europe as it travels the world.

Michael Jackson ONE is a state-of-the-art visual and audio experience creating a theatrical evocation of Michael’s creative genius. Guided and inspired by his music, four misfits set out on a transformative adventure. By journey’s end, they will personify Michael’s agility, courage, playfulness and love.

“This is our second project with The Estate of Michael Jackson which confirms how stimulating this creative partnership was meant to be,” said Daniel Lamarre, president and CEO of Cirque du Soleil. “Michael Jackson is an all-time phenomenal artist, both timeless and contemporary. As a creative challenge, this project is the ultimate. Through the use of cutting edge technology, we will produce a new Cirque du Soleil theatrical experience not only respectful of Michael’s legacy but also very distinctive from Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour.”

“We are guided by Michael’s own philosophy in all that we do. In preparing for this production, Michael’s message to the cast and crew for his This Is It concerts was foremost in our minds. He counseled them on what the audience experience should be: ‘They want wonderful experiences. We want to take them places that they’ve never been before. We want to show them talent like they’ve never seen before. We’re putting love back into the world to remind the world that love is important. WE’RE ALL ONE. That is the message. ’ We feel the same, and that is what we are delivering both to lifelong fans and those just discovering his artistic genius with Michael Jackson ONE,” stated John Branca and John McClain, Co-Executors of The Estate of Michael Jackson.

Chuck Bowling, Mandalay Bay’s president and COO, said, “The partnership with Cirque du Soleil and The Estate of Michael Jackson represents an extraordinary moment for Mandalay Bay. We are in the midst of a major transformation at this resort, introducing a new set of experiences for our guests. Michael Jackson ONE is truly the crown jewel in that transformation and we cannot wait to share this very special production with the world.”

Along with Jamie King—who started his career as a dancer on Michael’s Dangerous World Tour and also directed the arena touring show Michael Jackson The IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil— Michael Jackson ONE will bring together the creative minds behind the Michael Jackson Estate, John Branca and John McClain, and the diverse talents of the following creator:

Calvin Harris confirms Las Vegas residency

0

Scottish house producer/DJ has announced his residency at new Las Vegas superclub Hakkasan. The club, set to open at the iconic MGM Grand Hotel this spring, will play host to Harris over a 20-month long permanent stint.

The entertainer made the announcement at Jay-Z’s BRIT Awards after-show party last night at London restaurant/bar Hakkasan, saying:

“I think the most exciting thing about this club is the team behind it. They have been so important in the growth of European dance music back in the U.K.”

“They know clubs, it’s the main thing that they’ve done for so many years. When they came to me and say they’re going to build this massive, massive club and (that) it’s going be finished in the most incredible way, it was just too good to be true. Being an established brand, you know it’s going to be quality.”

Aside from the 46 dates at Hakkasan Las Vegas, Grammy award-winner Harris will also play 22 dates at the Wet Republic Pool Bar during the daytime.

[REVIEW] Justin Timberlake live at London’s Forum – now with updated videos

0

10 years ago, if you were to ask me to go to a Justin Timberlake concert, my reply would be more negatively blunt than negatively polite. Tonight, all that changed.

The hype that’s been buzzing over the past few weeks since he announced his return to music has been truly justified (that’s not meant to be a pun by the way!) When JT launched Justified in 2002, it didn’t really break boundaries, but it did position the ex-boybander as a potential force to be reckoned with. Then there was the break, and then the return with a new direction; a more focused one. FutureSex LoveSounds launched with SexyBack. At the time, I hated it. After 10 plays, I hated it. Then I heard it in a club and realised exactly what him and Timbaland were doing when they created it. It was a masterpiece. Then came My Love, What Goes Around etc etc.

Hiatus again, then the surprise comeback a few weeks ago. Similar to SexyBack, I didn’t quite ‘get’ Suit and Tie at first – then it grabbed me. Justin is a powerhouse, and a force to reckon with.

Tonight’s show continued this theme. He went through his back catalogue, opening with Like I Love You and then straight into My Love. Going through his discography set fans and musos crazy – you genuinely forget the crowd-pleasing hits this guy has had. Then he followed into new album track ‘Pusher Love Girl’; it’s great but best wait until you hear the album edit before you witness the live version – you won’t be disappointed though. Next it was Summer Love, another standout from FutureSex LoveSounds.

Now, before I continue, the tracks he sung from his sophmore album weren’t his ‘radio friendly’ versions; no, it was the full track – interludes aplenty.

Then came Senorita which set the crowds crazy – the guys did the ‘fellas’ bit, the girls did the ‘girls’ bit… or the ‘birds’ as JT shouted. Next track, another newbie, ‘That Girl’ – slightly down-tempo, but lovely all the same.

Then the surprises started.

Changing the tone, JT threw in a full version of INXS’s ‘I Need You Tonight’. The crowd were happy; the atypical teenage screaming girl fans at the front didn’t get it; everyone else who were there for real music loved it

After a couple more tracks (LoveStoned, Until The End Of Time, Rock Your Body), JT and his ‘Tennessee Kids’ rocked in to the most amazing rendition of the Jackson 5’s ‘Shake Your Body’. Dance routines were, quite simply, wow. Vocals – on point. Strings, horns, not normal

Suit and Tie did what it was expected to. Fans were expecting Jay-Z (who didn’t appear), but JT filled the rap-gap perfectly.

Then the encore of SexyBack – I really wish I could relive this brilliant moment.

It wasn’t just his vocals with this gig, it was everything. Everything was perfection – I’ve never used that word in a review before. He was cool. He was effortless. Flawless. Impeccable vocals. Dance routines followed that – subtle yet special. Production was incredible. Backing vocals / dancers – wondrous. Lighting – deserved awards.

Videos have now been finally added below; make sure you watch in HQ and FULL SCREEN!. If you have the opportunity to go to Wireless Festival this year, I highly highly suggest you go. This could go down as the greatest gig I’ve ever been to. Bravo JT, bravo!

[VIDEO] Miguel premiers new video for ‘Candles In The Sun’

0

R&B singer Miguel has released the video for new single ‘Candles In The Sun’. The Grammy-nominated artist has taken a change in direction off his normal video stance by focusing more on world issues; a theme which [thankfully] seems to be the case for many urban artists at the moment. The black-and-white-filmed video focuses on key issues normally shied away from in popular culture – war, drugs, racism, crime, poverty – the whole shebang.

When asked about the video [and track], the singer replied:

It’s so easy to ignore what’s right in front of us sometimes. I wanted to create a song and visual that addressed my everyday concerns of life as I know it in the world that we live in.

The song is the third release off his number 1 album ‘Kaleidoscope Dream’ – watch the video below:

[NEWS] Adele expected to receive apology for last year’s ‘Cordon Cut-Off’ at tonight’s BRIT Awards

0

Rumours are afloating the web that UK singer Adele is to receive some form of apology at tonight’s BRIT Awards.

Awards chairman David Joseph has revealed that Adele being cut off during her speech at last year’s show will be put right at tonight’s event, admitting that the decision to end her speech should never have happened.

Joseph admitted in an interview with The Guardian:

“How can you take an artist who has made the biggest cultural impact musically this country has seen globally for some time and cut her off in the middle of her speech? I very much to this day question what was happening in that control booth.”

If indeed an apology is given tonight, it could mark three years on the trott that Adele has been central to the BRITs. In 2011, the singer threw away the need for pizazz and flashing lights to perform an emotional and captivating performance of Someone Like You, whilst last year’s infamous ‘cutting off’ by James Cordon sent the headlines in a spin.

Guess we’ll all find out tonight then! Watch the infamous ‘cut-off’ below:
