[NEW MUSIC] Zane Lowe’s worldwide premiere of Benga & Kano’s brilliant ‘Forefathers’

0

Little over 15 minutes ago, Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe played the worldwide premiere of Benga’s incredible new track, featuring some phenomenal bars by Kano. ‘Forefathers’ is brilliant; some fantastic grime over an astronomical beat.

Nothing more can be said than CHECK…..THIS….OUT. Zane Lowe has called this his ‘Hottest Record In The World’, and after just one listen there’s no need to argue.

Yep, you read the headline right. Multi-multi-multi-multi-millionaire musician Chris Brown has exploded at a car park valet in Los Angeles for charging him the pricely sum of…. $10 to park his car.

The incident, captured by a TMZ reporter, happened at the PINZ bowling alley in Studio City, CA last night (US time), where Brown was attending a charity function.

Bravo Breezy, you’ve spearheaded your way to ‘Idiot of the Week’ with this one.

[RUMOUR] Apple considering lending and resale of iTunes content from user to user

0

Thanks to a set of patents recently discovered by website AppleInsider, it seems that Apple may soon be allowing users to resell or lend out iTunes content to other users.

itunes-resale

According to Apple blog Macrumors:

Apple’s system is similar to one outlined in a separate patent already granted to Amazon, although Amazon’s approach requires transactions to be made via a central marketplace while Apple’s proposed approach would also allow direct user-to-user transfers.
Techniques are provided for managing access to a digital content item (such as an ebook, music, movie, software application) to be transferred from one user to another. The transferor is prevented from accessing the digital content item after the transfer occurs. The entity that sold the digital content item to the transferor enforces the access rights to the digital content item by storing data that establishes which user currently has access to the digital content item. After the change in access rights, only the transferee is allowed access to the digital content item. As part of the change in access rights, the transferee may pay to obtain access to the digital content item. A portion of the proceeds of the “resale” may be paid to the creator or publisher of the digital content item and/or the entity that originally sold the digital content item to the original owner.
Restrictions are outlined to prevent abuse of the facility, such as allowing publishers to limit transfers to certain timescales (for example, requiring the user to have owned the product for a certain length of time before selling it), frequency (limiting how often someone could sell their content), price (enforcing a minimum price) and buyer (perhaps limiting sales to within the country of origin).

The patent covers gifting and loan as well as resale, and outlines an option for the content publisher to receive a cut in return for granting rights to transfer the content.

It should of course be noted that Apple files a huge number of patent applications, only a tiny minority of which ever see the light of day in an Apple product or service, but it is interesting to see Apple at least exploring the idea.

Little Mix perform acoustic at Big Top 40

0

Last night heralded an intimate quiz by Global Radio & Vodafone’s ‘Big Top 40’ (massive thanks Global by the way!).

As a means of musical entertainment, the hosts bought on 2011 X-Factor winners ‘Little Mix’ to perform an acoustic set.

Taking away the crowd noise in the background, the girls actually did a fairly decent job.

[NEW MUSIC] Drake releases ‘5am in Toronto’

0

Welcome back Drake!

Fans may remember the Canadian rapper’s ‘9am In Dallas’; a simple freestyle which preceded the release of smash debut ‘Take Care’.

Well, now with third album ‘Nothing Was The Same’ on the horizon, Drake has released a sequel to ‘Dallas’ with ‘5am in Toronto’.

It’s a monster track – the thumping beat collides with melancholic keys, offering a perfect springboard for Drake’s impressively strong vocals to shine through. Vocals are a pure quote-a-thon too; you’ll see what I mean when you hear the full track. Standout for me though has to be ‘That’s why every song sounds like Drake featuring Drake’.

In my opinion, this could be Drake’s strongest release since Forever. Controversial I know, but I adored that track.

Check out ‘5am in Toronto’ below; it’s all ‘beats n bars’:

[NEW MUSIC] M.I.A. releases ‘Mantangi’ album sampler mix

0

Even though M.I.A.’s next LP ‘Matangi’ isn’t set for release for another month, whet fans’ appetites with the release of an extended mix of the same name. The Sri Lankan artist teamed up with the Kenzo fashion label to release the 8-minute mix that was used as the soundtrack during last week’s Paris Fashion Week.

In true M.I.A. style, the mix fuses the artist’s favoured melodies – combining crazy beats over an even crazier bass, whilst throwing in some Bollywood-style vocals and melodies.

Check out the audio of ‘Matangi’ below:

[LISTEN] The xx cover Kings of Tomorrow’s ‘Finally’

0

The xx took to Radio 1’s Live Lounge yesterday and as such, lent their ‘whispy’ sound toward their Live Lounge cover.

The group took to add their trademark spin onto Kings of Tomorrow/Layo & Bushwacka’s iconic track ‘Finally’, and boy have they pulled it off. With Jamie’s now infamous beats bringing a more upbeat vibe to the song and Romy Croft’s sublime vocals adding a dash of edgy sensuality, the group have done wonders with another fabulous remake.

Check it out below:

Ed Sheeran & Passenger cover Blackstreet’s ‘No Diggity’

After debuting their collaborative efforts late last month (here), Ed Sheeran and Passenger have teamed up again to perform a brilliant rendition of Blackstreet’s ‘No Diggity’. The acoustic, performed live for Australia’s ‘Fifi & Jules’ show, is simply wonderful and places a completely different spin on the classic track.

Check it out below – it’s fantastic:

[NEWS] Kasabian and Bruce Springsteen to headline Hard Rock Calling

0

Rock band Kasabian and legendary US artist Bruce Springsteen have been confirmed as the headliners for this summer’s Hard Rock Calling.

The British rock band will join ‘The Boss’ at the two day ‘festival’ at The Olympic Park – the new home to various festivals this summer after organisers famously scrapped Hyde Park.

Kasabian are set to headline the first night (June 29th), and are set to be supported by the likes of The Tribes, Paul Weller and The Klaxons.

Meanwhile, June 30th will play host to Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band, with support provided by Alabama Shakes and The Black Crowes.

Springsteen’s return to Hard Rock Calling will mark a year since he was famously forced to end his set at a moment’s notice after a collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney overran on Royal Park regulations. Hamish Dodds, CEO of Hard Rock International, announced today:

“Last year, Bruce Springsteen And The E Street Band made international news and history when their Hard Rock Calling encore with Sir Paul McCartney was unceremoniously cut short due to a noise curfew at Hyde Park. This summer we are giving Bruce and the band the opportunity to finish what they started and make history again with a celebrated performance at Hard Rock Calling. Additionally, we are looking forward to christening Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with a Saturday line-up of some of Britain’s hottest talent, including headliner Kasabian, Paul Weller and more.”

Tickets for Hard Rock Calling go on sale this Friday (8th March) at 9am
