Pun or no pun, Skepta well-and-truly ‘shutdown’ London last night, with his impromptu free gig at London’s Holywell Lane Car Park last night.

And truly-deserved it was too… with Skepta having reached almost global levels of fame, particularly over the past few months, last night’s show ultimately also offered Skepta the ‘thanks’ to all his UK support throughout the years. It’s one thing for artists to talk about their ‘roots’, but connecting with them on a personable level is another, and it’s a rarity too – therefore, last night’s set should also massively be encouraged as a benchmark for other grime artists.

Amusingly, five years ago Skepta even foresaw the moment of the show, tweeting back in April 2010 “One day I’m gonna have a Party in a Car Park and you can all come for free”. Big-up Adenuga for keeping your promise!
