An extension of Paul McCartney’s US tour has effectively ruled out him out of a highly-rumoured headline appearance at this summer’s Glastonbury Festival.
In a press release earlier today (15th January), McCartney confirmed an extra performance at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of his US ‘Freshen Up’ tour. The 29th June show (alongside dates either side) will be in support of last year’s ‘Egypt Station’ LP.
The former member of The Beatles was expected to return to Worthy Farm to close Glastonbury 2019 on the final day – Sunday 30th June – and whilst it would be *technically* possible to fly from Vegas to the UK in time, there leaves only a short window (a matter of hours) for any delays, issues etc once time-difference has been taken into account. It would be highly likely neither McCartney nor Glastonbury organisers would want to take that chance. His last Glastonbury Festival appearance was back in 2004.
The past six months has seen both The Cure and Paul McCartney high up as bookies’ favourites to take a coveted headline slot; so far Stormzy marks the only headliner confirmed for the Pyramid Stage (Friday 28th June). Janelle Monae was recently announced as one of the West Holts headliners, whilst Kylie Minogue will make her long-awaited solo debut as the Sunday Afternoon ‘legend’.
Glastonbury 2019 returns on 26th June.
