Mac Miller’s family, alongside his label, have spoken out regarding the rapper’s shock death yesterday.

In a statement, Warner Bros. Records said: “All of us at Warner Bros. Records are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news of Mac Miller’s untimely passing,” It reads. “Mac was a hugely gifted and inspiring artist, with a pioneering spirit and sense of humor that touched everyone he met. Mac’s death is a devastating loss and cuts short a life of talent and huge potential, where the possibilities felt limitless. We join all of his fans across the globe in extending our thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.”

Meanwhile, his family thanked fans in a public statement to Rolling Stone:

“Malcolm McCormick, known and adored by fans as Mac Miller, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. He was a bright light in this world for his family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of his death at this time.”

The 26 year-old singer’s death instantly sent shockwaves throughout the industry, with many artists voicing their devastation on Twitter. The likes of Chance The Rapper, Diplo, Post Malone and J.Cole all reached out to their followers to express their heartbreak.

It is believed that Miller passed away from a drug overdose, with paramedics called to his California home just before midday on Friday. He was expected to hit the road alongside Thundercat next month in support of his new album ‘Swimming’, which was released last month.
