After a week of hardcore campaigning, Stormzy’s excellent studio debut record Gangs Signs and Prayer has hit the top spot in the UK’s Official Album Charts.

Featuring the likes of Raleigh Ritchie, MNEK and Khelani, GSAP has won accolades across the music spectrum, from both hardcore fans and critics alike, with many championing the project as a forward-thinking marvel of storytelling. Additonally, the significance of this accolade is huge with GSAP becoming the UK’s first ever No.1 grime album.

As early as today, both Stormzy and Rag’n’Bone Man were neck-and-neck for the top spot, both switching between first and second place throughout the week. A combined sales figure of 69,000 copies helped Stormzy clinch the title, with the record also earning the most first-week streams for a Number 1 album in chart history, surpassing the opening week of Drake. Gang Signs & Prayer is also faster-selling than Skepta’s Konnichiwa, Kano’s Made in the Manor and Giggs’ Landlord.

Seven tracks from Gang Signs & Prayer also made it into the Official Charts Company’s Top 100 UK Chart too; six in the Top 40.
