Following overwhelming response during his stint on Simon Mayo’s Radio 2 show last week, Rick Wakeman has re-recorded new piano versions of David Bowie’s Life On Mars and Space Oddity.

Released in partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support (whom will receive 100% of the track’s royalties), Wakeman’s covers fall close to the performer’s heart, with Bowie meeting the songwriter and pianist during the recording sessions of Life On Mars back in the early-1970s.

Now having received over 2m streams online since the chance performance one Radio 2, an official release in support of a cancer charity seemed an obvious choice, particularly fitting coinciding with Cancer Talk Week.
