Jamie Woon has announced his return to the music scene, as he looks to follow up his impressive debut Mirrorwriting with an all-new collection of material.

Confirming the news during a recent interview on Beats 1, Woon said his as-yet-untitled record may take a nod to D’Angelo’s acclaimed Voodoo:

“The album is getting there. I had ideas hanging over from before but what I wanted to do was do something more live after touring”

“I’m really inspired by D’Angelo’s Voodoo and having the band in the room. It’s a dying art trying to record live players because it costs money to do it properly. My starting point was that I wanted to hear a funky rhythm section. It’s still the same type of songs it’s just a real drummer and bass player, not electronic.”

Mirrorwriting won rave reviews upon its 2011 release, which saw Woon working with Royce Wood Jr for the most-part (himself becoming known as an artist in his own right over the past couple of years). Whilst an official tracklisting, or title, has yet to be announced for the follow-up, Woon did showcase an all-new track on Pharrell’s show – hit play at the top of this post to stream Sharpness straight away.
