Following earlier rumours, Dr Dre has officially announced Compton: The Soundtrack, a new collection inspired by his forthcoming NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton.

Confirming the news on The Pharmacy, Dre’s Beats 1 radio show earlier this evening, Compton: The Soundtrack will land on 7th August and will also be exclusive to iTunes / Apple Music.

Alongside the announcement of the new project, Dre confirmed that Detox, the rap producer’s heavily-anticipated follow-up to his 1999 record 2001, has now officially been scrapped.

“I didn’t like it” said Dre…. “It wasn’t good. The record, it just wasn’t good.I worked my ass off on it, and I don’t think I did a good enough job”.

Detox itself only saw a handful of single releases, including 2010’s Snoop Dogg and Akon-featuring Kush.
