Last month, songwriter-of-the-moment Jimmy Napes dropped his first piece of solo material, with the exciting Give It Up. Today, Napes (aka James Napier) shares Making Of Me, the title-track from his forthcoming debut EP.

Unveiled days after his on-stage appearance with Sam Smith during the latter’s recent Grammy Award win (Napes is a well-known collaborator with Smith and Disclosure amongst others), Making Of Me is a wondrous 2-step feel-good cut, harking back to the early days of commercial soulful UKG (think Artful Dodger’s It’s All About The Stragglers LP & MJ Cole’s Crazy Love as some kind of subtle inspiration). In fact, the track was produced by Cole himself, hence the signature sound. There’s also an err toward the likes of Gorgon City & Zak Abel about Making Of Me, particularly when you consider the latter’s new Joker-produced EP – strong soulful vibes that’ll make you feel summer sunshine actually isn’t too far off.

Whilst Napes has wowed us over the past couple of years with his songwriting abilities, the strength of both Making Of Me and Give It Up additionally add fuel that he’s more a musician and an artist than just a one-trick-pony.

Kudos to this one; the Making Of Me EP lands on 6th March so hit the iTunes link for the preorder – the full track follows below:
