World-famous London nightclub Fabric is reported to be facing closure following a series of drug-related deaths at the venue.

According to the Islington Gazette, the fate of the superclub is to be decided by Islington Council this evening (Thursday 18th December), after four deaths in the past three years following a supposed ecstasy overdose.

Chief Superintendent Steve Deehan said: “Immaturity of lifestyle of the patrons leads
to them becoming actively involved in the taking of illegal drugs and this could account for the disproportionate and wholly unacceptable number of deaths and near death incidents at the venue.”, continuing “I am extremely concerned and very disappointed that I find myself addressing you regarding yet another serious drug-related incident.” Revoking Fabric’s clubbing license is apparently being “seriously considered to prevent further deaths”.

In support of Fabric, both a Facebook page and an e-petition have been set up, the latter of which expresses that the potential loss of Fabric “has serious cultural and societal implications – not to mention economic (given it attracts a global clientele) – to both London and the UK… “

UPDATE

According to rumoured documents, it is likely that Islington Council will be considering an increase in Fabric’s security, versus an all-out closure.
