One of the most surprising new artists to hop on the scene this year has been young Atlanta rapper/singer/songwriter Raury, with his interesting take on future-hip-hop, whilst also utilising his opportunity in the spotlight to confront social issues facing the youth.

Well now, following his breathtaking single God’s Whisper, as well as the preceding releases Sunshine and Cigarette Song, Raury has shared his debut album Indigo Child in full.

Channeling a more modern-day stance to rap, with more alternative crossover beats than we’ve been accustomed to from the genre, Indigo Child is an impressively strong debut, particularly from someone so young. The variety in its offering is something which should absolutely be applauded; from comparisons to an early Andre 3000, to the channeling of the likes of early Bowie, Indigo Child is an intriguing proposition. Whilst he’s unlikely to break the mainstream just yet (alas we don’t believe the world is ready for someone so young to confront such powerful topics), Raury is off to a remarkably strong start with Indigo Child, ultimately offering him the credibility that many of his peers seem to fall off by.

If this is what album number one hears, we can’t wait to see what else is in store! Stream Indigo Child below:
