Whilst Diplo’s work with Madonna has been heavily documented over the past year or so, the trap/dance DJ shared a special one-off dubplate last week, recorded by Madge herself.
Appearing on Annie Mac’s Superstar DJ series, Diplo dropped a world-premiere, unveiling a glimpse of a re-record of Madonna’s 1987 hit La Isla Bonita to a flabbergasted Mac.
The re-edit hears Madonna replace opening line “Last night I dreamt of San Pedro”, with “Last night I dreamt of Major Lazer”, paying homage to Diplo’s off-shoot collective.
“This took a hard, long conversation to get this to work” said Diplo, reiterating that the track was not a single, merely a one-off as a dub plate, just to let the track be heard mid-set. Very cool!
