Rob Da Bank and DJ Yoda are to join BBC Radio 6Music’s weekly 6 Mix show, the broadcaster has announced.
The two names will join the show’s already stellar line-up of resident DJs – Jamie xx, Andrew Weatherall, Derrick May, Groove Armada, Goldie and Erol Alkan. Each represents a different corner of the dance music spectrum and all of them are world-class masters of the DJ arts.
Rob da Bank plays an eclectic mix of audio loveliness from techno to chillwave, covering a spectrum of leftfield music, new and old. He joins as a resident following two stints as a 6 Mix guest DJ – the first was earlier this year in February, the second in May. Aside from his radio ventures, he is best known as the creator of Bestival and Camp Bestival, and the Sunday Best label which has released music by David Lynch, Dan le Sac & Scroobius Pip, Valerie June, Dub Pistols and Beardyman.

The pioneer of the bootleg ‘cut-up’ mixing style, DJ Yoda – aka Duncan Beiny – joins the 6 Mix residents, bringing his turntable trickery to Friday nights. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series of CD releases showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style. His influences range from funk, reggae and drum ‘n’ bass to big band swing and Country & Western, and he’s played alongside artists including Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Fatboy Slim. Yoda was a guest on 6 Mix last June for its first ever Visual 6 Mix, in which he talked about his music video favourites, then delivered an incredible audio/visual mix live which could be heard on the radio and seen online and via the BBC Red Button.
DJ Yoda says: “I have a huge amount of respect for 6 Music. It’s a station that champions a creative approach to music so being asked to become a 6 Mix Resident makes me feel right at home. The feedback for the visual 6 Mix I did last year, which went out on the BBC Red Button, was extraordinary and I can’t wait to try and top that. Boom!”
6 Mix also features guest mixes from an incredible range of globally renowned names which have included Carl Cox, Moby, Pet Shop Boys, Grandmaster Flash, Thom Yorke, Massive Attack and Sasha. Over the next few months, the show will be welcoming big beat maestro Fatboy Slim, disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder, and UK hip-hop legend Roots Manuva.
On Friday 13 June, as part of 6 Music Celebrates South America, Quantic will be manning the decks taking listeners through some of his favourite music from Colombia and beyond. Currently based in his studio in the highlands of Bogota, Colombia, his music fuses together Latin, Soul and South American rhythms. And on Friday 20 June, Swedish quartet Little Dragon take the helm with a whole host of musical inspirations, new and old, from Paul Simon to Pedestrian via Leon Vynehall and Roman Fluegel.
