Police in Austin, TX, investigating yesterday’s incident at SXSW, have identified the suspect as Rashad Charjuan Owens, a 21 year-old aspiring musician from Texas.

It has been confirmed by police that Owens was the sole person in the vehicle who crashed through barricades, mowing down, and subsequently killing two SXSW guests and injuring many more, some critically.

Sources close to the event have also laid claim that Owens was also booked to perform at the event.

If found guilty of the offence, the 21-year old could face two counts of capital murder alongside 23 counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, however some say he may instead face the death penalty.

Owens has a previous criminal record of driving under the influence, of which he was believed to be also DUI’d during the SXSW fiasco yesterday.
