New Zealand chart star Lorde has knocked Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball off the top spot of the US Billboard charts l, with debut hit Royals.

The track, which replaces Cyrus’ fortnight reign at No 1, is taken from Lorde’s brand new album Pure Heroine, currently winning over critics on all corners of the globe.

16 year-old Lorde is the youngest artist to have secured the coveted spot, since Tiffany’s hit I Think We’re Alone Now took the No.1 spot on 7th November 1987. Additionally, according to Billboard, Lorde’s Royals has set the mark for the longest reign in the 25-year history of the Alternative Songs chart (seven weeks) by a lead female, besting Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know” (five weeks, 1995).
